Ship operator obligations
Pole Star provides a secure web-based system where the ship operator can set up and manage their own account, initiating a test and reviewing progress at any time. Once a test is initiated, Pole Star’s system manages all aspects of the test procedure: terminal commissioning, satellite communications network management, post-test decommissioning, production of a detailed test result and, if required, provision of a Conformance Test Report.
The ship operator is obliged to:
- Provide an onboard terminal compliant with SOLAS V/19-1.
- Have the terminal tested and certified as compliant in accordance with MSC.1 Circ.1307 by an Authorised Service Provider (ASP) recognised by your Flag Administration.
- Obtain a Conformance Test Report as proof of LRIT compliance.
LRIT equipment must meet the following requirements:
- Transmit an Automatic Position Report (APR) every 6 hours including
- Ship identity
- Ship position
- Date and time of position
- Respond to a poll to transmit immediate position report.
- Be configured remotely to vary the frequency of position reporting (from 24 hours to a maximum of every 15 minutes).
